Different Types of Loans

A loan is a great option if you are in need of funds. However, it is important to do the proper research before you get a loan. There are different types of loans and doing research will allow you to select the one that best fits your needs.

Short-Term Loans

Many people turn to short-term borrowing when they need a cash loan fast to cover an emergency expense. Short-term loans are typically less than $1,000. Most of these loans are designed to be paid off within three to 12 months.

To qualify for a short-term installment loan, borrowers need to be 18 or older and provide proof of income. Furthermore, they usually need to have an active checking account in good standing. This allows the lender to deposit the loan directly into the borrower’s bank account, as well as deduct the payments as arranged.

Student Loans

The cost of college is rising, so many people have to use student loans. There are federal and private student loans. The loan application process for getting a federal student loan is relatively simple. You will need to fill out a Free Application for Student Aid, or FAFSA.

Direct loans and Stafford loans are the two types of federal student loans. People choose these loans because the interest rates are lower and repayment terms are flexible. If you still need money after taking out a federal loan, then you can apply for a private loan.

Private loans can come from multiple sources. They can also vary in terms of repayment length, interest rates, and requirements. It is a good idea to shop around before you apply for a private loan.

You should only borrow what you need. In most cases, people start paying back private and federal loans six to nine months after graduating from college.

Car Loans

Most people will have to take out a loan to finance their cars. Before you apply for a car loan, you will need to check your credit. Your credit score will not only determine whether you get approved for a loan, but it will also determine your interest rates. After that, you will need to get pre-approved for a loan. You can get a pre-approval from a bank, credit loan or online lender.

Shop around in order to get the best rates. A pre-approval will guarantee that you can get a certain amount of money for a certain amount of time. Keep in mind that it is possible to get approved for a car loan with bad credit. However, you may need a cosigner.

You can go car shopping after you have been pre-approved. Try to do all of your car loan shopping within a two-week period because too many inquiries can hurt your credit. After you have selected a car, the dealer will finalize the sale with the lender.

Home Loans

The requirements for getting a mortgage are stricter than other types of loans. Good credit and several years of stable employment will greatly increase your chances of being approved. You will need to get pre-approved for a home loan. You will need to supply your pay stubs, tax returns and bank statements to the lender. After you have been pre-approved for a set amount, you can go home shopping.

You will then need to put in an offer for a home. You will put in the application for a home loan after you have selected the home. It’s important to calculate the mortgage payment to make sure this is an affordable option long-term
